What is a rotary jet pump?

A rotary jet pump uses a rotor (rotating case) and a fixed pick-up tube. The drive turns the rotor and the liquid inside it. The tube mouth faces the moving liquid. It directs that liquid into the outlet and converts its velocity into pressure. One pressure-building stage supplies the required head.

This construction is also called a pitot tube pump. Roto-Jet is a pump brand that uses the same principle.

Compare flow and head to shortlist a series. Each series offers different speeds and pick-up tube sizes. Selection includes the motor power and inlet-pressure limit. The performance curve is supplied for the selected combination.

Five reasons to look at this construction

Full head from one stage

The rotor and pick-up tube produce up to 1,050 m of head in a single stage. The liquid passes through one pressure-building stage, so the internal path is easy to inspect.

Steady pressure as demand falls

Pressure remains steady at low flow. A small continuous bypass allows operation towards the closed-valve point. This suits a shared supply where some outlets close while others stay open.

A seal on the inlet side

The mechanical seal is exposed to inlet pressure. The high-pressure outlet has no moving seal. Seal selection uses the inlet pressure and liquid temperature.

Liquids with some gas or particles

The pump can handle liquids containing some gas or particles. Increasing gas gradually reduces flow and head. Particle content affects the choice of tube and materials.

A tube option for particle wear

A coated pick-up tube resists wear from hard particles. Chemical resistance requires a suitable wetted material. The coating and material solve different problems.

Already running a Roto-Jet pump?

Keep the pump and renew its working parts, or replace the complete unit. WeiMing supplies pick-up tubes and rotor assemblies that directly replace the corresponding Roto-Jet parts. Coated tubes are available for hard-particle wear.

For a complete-pump replacement, flanges can be made for the existing pipes. The base and drive are checked against the installation.

What to send
Include the liquid, required flow and head. Add inlet and outlet pressure, temperature and NPSHa where available. For replacement work, include the nameplate model. Photos are optional.

Review the proposal
We select the speed and pick-up tube and provide a curve and project drawings. Check the operating point, materials, seal, connections and equipment included.

Confirm the supply
After technical approval, the order goes to stock supply or production. Most standard models are stocked. Motors, controls or gearboxes can affect the delivery of a non-stock unit.

Three questions before you start

01Can one pump cover changing demand?

Yes. Pressure remains steady as flow falls. Keep a small continuous bypass open when the main outlet is almost or fully closed. The minimum and maximum demand define the operating range.

02Can I order only the worn tube?

Yes. The pick-up tube can be supplied separately from the complete pump. Both standard and wear-resistant tubes are available.

03What comes with a pump proposal?

The proposal includes the selected curve and project drawings. These cover the operating point and installation. The contact page provides a checklist for the initial email.
